How did you discover anime?

I watched Pokemon and Sailor Moon when I was young, but I didn't really view it as any different than other cartoons.

But later my sister and I would watch Outlaw Star and Rurouni Kenshin on Cartoon Network.

But I think the thing that really got me into them was the premiere of InuYasha when I was in about 3rd grade. I remember my sister taped it--yes, on an actual VCR-- and was like "Hey, they premiered a new series, wanna watch it?" After that, there was no going back.

I started watching anime on toonomi though I didn't know it was anime. I don't remember how old I was. I only remembered that was the great time when Cartoon Network actually played cartoons I liked. Later in high school...or was it middle school...well, sometime in my teens, one of my friends drew anime characters. Then I learned the concept of anime and manga. However, I didn't really get into anime til high school when I entered my friend's room and started reading her manga. After that, I've been sharing titles with my friends and watching them subbed online or on netflix.

Hmm.......my first anime I believe was Inuyasha xD I was really restless and couldn't sleep while I was over at a friends house, so I turned on the tv and Adult Swim had just started airing it. I was really lucky it was the first episode too xD Otherwise I would have been SO lost

Hmmmmmm............Well, I saw Card Captor Sakura and YuGiOh! a few times on public television when I was little. They were interesting, but that didn't get me hooked (Okay, actually, I was a little addicted to Yugioh, but I felt so compulsive about it, I didn't like it and made myself stop watching it.).

Then when I was about thirteen or fourteen, my brothers started watching Rurouni Kenshin. Then Naruto. Let's just say I became addicted.

My first anime would have to be "Vampire Hunter D" when I was four, but at that time I didn't even know what "anime" was no less the story for this movie. Anyways, it wasn't until elementary when I watched Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon, and Dragonball Z that I came to discover anime.

Well like japanese anime or just in general anime?

Well if its japanese anime, then I'll have to say on some chinese tv show. The anime was Super Pig

If it was American Anime, then it would be Pokemon. But in general, the Super Pig was first anime overall.

When I was a kid I used to watch digimon, then pokemon, then yugioh and beyblades. I watched old episodes of robotboy on the BBC and some zoids show on sky. My parents also took me to studio ghibli films at the cinema. I didn't get properly into anime, the way I am now until around this time last year. I got an iPhone, and just used to use it for everything, I started streaming episodes of bleach to it. I used to browse the website on my phone, and find other things to watch, and by chance I came across things like TWGOK and Angel Beats. What I'd do is just pick a random letter, then pick the coolest sounding name, or I'd close my eyes, select a letter, then select an anime with my eyes close, and just watch whatever I clicked on. I later on found out about other shows, and started watching airing stuff as well.

For manga, I found a yugioh graphic novel in my library, read it, got a friend of mine to read it. We then found things we liked, and shared them, and introduced each other to series. I'd get the odd graphic novel every so often, he stopped, but I continued.

Well, my family is Japanese, so I've been watching shows like okaasan to Issho which is like a singing show for little Todd and babies to learn their numbers and stuff, and there were some animation and stuff in there.

My aunt who lives in japan used us VCRs of the animes often ^^ that's how we got access to anime.

So the animes that I watched... >.<

I'm a '99 kid so they're not super ancient, but

-ashita no naajya

-Pretty Cure! ←Max heart, splash star, 5, yes-5 go go!

-one piece

-chibi maruko chan

-doraemon

-crayon shinchan

-Kirarin Revolution

-konjiki no Gash bell

I very much ADORED anime since I was a toddler.

I can still sing the opening themes for some of these animes, like Pretty Cure, because my mum always sang them and it got into my system, I guess.

The very first OP of One piece was really an awesome song too.

Pokemon isn't american

The only reason why I say its American is because it was put out in English dubbed. I used to have a tape of Pokemon, although it did say its made by Japanese artists/authors but the movie/tv series itself was dubbed in English. And of course Pokemon nowadays is in Japanese, but back then, it was dubbed into English. Them 1997 ~ 2002 or something were mostly dubbed in English.

Maybe I was the age of 7 and 8 years old but I don't know that is calling anime, I call (caricaturas) cartoons, and I liked very much, I don't remember the name but is about robots like Ultraman, or Seven, and several years later at the age of 12, I watch in open t.v.   The series Candy Candy and I loved to watch with my mom, it's was a phenomenon in that time, because the day of the final I remember that Mexico paralized all the activities for watch this amazing series...

The first time I ever watched anime was as long back as I can re,ember, because I lived in Japan ( oni90 I'm not any more! BWAAH...), and obviously if you let the TV  play, you'll probably find a random anime playing. But I think the first anime that I remember watching was Shugo Chara...

My first anime were .. Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z and Inuyasha. I don't remember quite well how I was introduced to any of those, but I do remember how I got to read/watch Dragon Ball Z. My aunt used to take me to the comic stores in Korea. I would grab a book when I could and the first one was Volume 8 of Dragon Ball Z XD

In South Africa there isn't much anime to choose from. I discovered anime because You GI Oh was showing on SABC 1 (south African broadcasting confederation) at the time I was 3. And all I knew was that the cartoon looked 'pretty' and I liked it. Later it was replaced by Teletubbies and it really pissed me off! I mean seriously this was stupid! Then I started watching dragon ball z on SABC 2 and I was hooked. DSTV is the best way to watch TV in Africa and they launched Animax in 2009 and I was seriously happy. I watched Negi and Witchblade and black cat and death note.

In hindsight an 8 year old little girl not only liking death note but loving it and actually understanding what was going on well... Now that I think about it. It was probably creepy that the 8 year old girl also thought that Shinigami were 'cute' and the way everything was well thought out amazing... Well that probably freeked some people out.

What I loved about anime was the fact that it made me happy to be different. You have no idea what people are like in south Africa are like. Anime made me happy to be not a little but very weird and very different and very happy to be me! Naruto has just arrived to South Africa about in 2013 in SABC 2 and they have stopped showing DBZ. I was really mad at first but now I don't mind so much.
