Cosplay? Yes, No, Maybe, or "I'm an alien. (shh)"

So, just posting this mainly because I'm going to a con at the end of the month and will "officially" be cosplaying. Whoo Hoo! I will be going as a white mage from the Final Fantasy games, and I am making the costume myself. That's right, I'm learning to sew.

 

Before I just cosplayed as a neko girl and a very bad Team Rocket grunt.

 

I thought I would post this to ask if anybody else has cosplayed before. If so, what? Did you make it yourself? Did you buy it? And all that other good jazz. This can also be a thread where you can ask for cosplaying advice. Oh, and if you have pictures, please post them.

 

For the record, if the mage costume turns out well enough, I will post a picture of myself wearing it, and a tut on how to make said costume.

I haven't cosplayed before, but my friend wants me to be Chie (Persona 4) coupled with Harada-no-something (Chie's persona) for the upcoming Anime Expo =]

I've never been, but my mom's always slapped something really intricate and super-expensive looking together for me on Halloween. Last year I went as a...belly dancer? Anyway, your costume is soooo cute.

It's not a nine-tailed fox costume. It's a white mage costume from the Final Fantasy games. I was answering Char's question about why I'm a fox. XD

I will post the instructions with pics when I talk to my friend. She helped me make the costume and I don't remember everything we did. And unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of everything, so I need to make sure the descriptions are detailed.

 

I can give you details about the fabric I used. Because of my size, we got 5yrds of white heavyweight fabric, which is super expensive. Did not realize that when I bought it because I thought it was on sale. It was like $8-$9 per yard, but I thought it was 30% off. But I bought it anyways because it is really nice fabric. If you don't want to spend that much, try finding a cheaper fabric that is also sturdy. As you can see, the robe goes to the ground. I was stepping and tripping on the hem a lot while walking, so if the fabric is sturdy, it won't rip if you do step on it. Do not get broadcloth because it tears easily and it does not forgive. What I mean that is that it doesn't stretch. Heavyweight doesn't stretch either, but that is why measurements are important. I also got 3yrds of red broadcloth that I used to make the triangles, the belt, and the red you see on the drawstring bag. Broadcloth costs around $3-$4 a yard. The bag is also made out of the leftover heavyweight.

So aside from cosplaying, my friend is also helping me get into lolita a bit. We're still working on the skirt, but here are the accesories I've made:
