Her mother, Ye Feii, was Taiwan's top model, and her father was also a model, until a tragic airplane crash left Lele without parents. Therefore it is no surprise that Lele hates the industry, thinking it superficial and unnecessary. Raised by her paternal grandmother, Lele reaches seventeen before she is sucked in by her mother's sister, Ye Feihung, a fashion agent (and former model) who "convinces" the reluctant Lele to pose. Lele is adverse to the whole idea, until she sees a photo shoot of popular American model Angus Lanson, and she begins to see modeling as an art form. When Aunt Feihung's magazine editor invites Angus Lanson to a meeting of all the top fashion ambassadors, Lele is invited along and is curious to meet Angus. She does not know that Angus' twin elder brother, Eros Lanson, is secretly accompanying his brother. This obviously leads to confusion and is the start of a charming story of Lele's goals: Fashion in New York city, becoming a top model, and love? (Source: ShoujoMagic) Personal opinion: Another one of my favorite manhuas. I started reading this 2-3 years ago and i just loved this from the very beginning. First of all, i enjoy the art at the fullest. I totally love Nicky Lee's style! Second of all, even though the story wasn't so catchy from the first chapters, in time the plot gets better and better,it also has some mysterious characters, so u can't really get bored of it. The humor in this manga is one of the best aspects. Lele's stupid clumsiness, Angus's brother-complex, the love hate relationships between Feihung and her "boytoy!" The list goes on and on. You'll laugh, cry and get angry throughout the whole story. That's the sign of a great manga! At the moment i've read all of the released chapters, and i still love this! I have also seen some raws of some future chapters and they were also really interesting, even though i didn't really understand all of them.Anyway, great manhua! I started reading this because I was looking for something similar to skip beat and while they are similar there are enough differences to make this one stand out to. I have also read up to the current released chapters as well and im interested in how the trip overseas will change her. My comment on her love life : Of the 2 brothers she needs to end up with Yin. Even though he acts cold you can tell he likes her he is just trying to keep her from being involved with his families problems. I mean... the only thing that's common is that they work somehow in the fashion industry.Even though in Skip Beat! the main feminine character is more about acting, not about being a model. And referring about what u said in the spoiler tag: yeah... totally agree with that! There's no doubt about why he acts so cold with her! I just hope that we're not gonna have now a lot of new chapters about a love triangle between the brothers and LeLe. Hope a new chapter will be released soon! Lele has a lot of growing to do and it's been fun watching how she deals with the brothers. Leo's infatuation and the fallout has been pretty well handled, all in all. I look forward to the next one and also dispute the idea of it being in a slide. I see the similarities between Skip Beat! and The One and really enjoy them both. A female main character enters the entertainment industry in order to chase after someone. In one story they are learning to act, in another they are becoming a model. I started reading this because I looking for another series like skip beat were a female lead is trying to enter the entertainment industry. jlucpitard Posted June 9, 2010 Report Share Posted June 9, 2010 skip beat and the one are not really that similar It could be argued either way, but the basic foundation tropes are similar: naive girl enters the business, experienced and somewhat cold man is her inspiration/ideal in the industry, their relationship is impossible as she is too young but he loves her secretly, she has natural ability that needs polishing and interesting support characters help her to achieve her goals. We readers get the dual stories of her progress in the entertainment/commercial world and her romantic relationship with the insanely handsome male lead. Both storytellers are talented and their stories are different and influenced by the different cultures they spring from. It would be boring if they were too similar, but I think if you like one, you'd like the other (unless you hold a specific beef?) Honey Hunt is another, but that one doesn't grab me due to the artist's muppet-like style and my inability to sympathize or understand the "cold" male who is supposed to be guiding her in the industry. The triangle (or quadrangle) in that one's too lame. There are plenty of other good stories with the same basic premise (Glass Mask?) but the really good ones transcend the basic tropes- another similarity between The One and Skip Beat!
