The father leaves Edo to work as a volunteer doctor and moves to Kyoto without his daughter. As time passes by, Chizuru starts worrying about losing contact with her father, so she decides to go to Kyoto in search of him. On the way, Chizuru is attacked by few criminals and witnesses a fight between an oni and the Shinsengumi. Taking her into custody and saving her, the Shinsengumi debate on what to do with Chizuru when they discover that she is the daughter of the doctor they are also looking for. So they decide to become Chizuru's protectors and help her look for her father(the doctor). Lots of events happen while she stays with the Shinsengumi, as they discover mysterious secrets and also fight against the Bakumatsu group. The story is overall romantic with a historical and political background. (Source: Hakuouki Official website) Personal opinion: So far i've seen all the 7 episodes that came out and i have to say that i really enjoy this series . I mean: historical + samurai + bishie + nice catchy plot + oni - it just can't get any better @onion22@ . This anime really caught me with lots of great qualities of a tv series:great art (this was the first thing that caught my eyes),nice soundtrack, great characters with different & really interesting personalities. Oooh... and i've heard that some of the characters are actual people that were military leaders so I thought that was really nice! It's just great how the anime connects the past for us viewers to relate to culture and to connect more with the traditional Japanese historical setting @onion24@. All in all... i enjoy every new episode to the fullest and i always find myself wanting to see more and more. Really hope this will end up being a great series from the beginning to the end of it @onion14@ . What about u guys? Do like this series? The story reminds me somewhat of Kaze Hikaru except with more fantasy elements. I hope they make the main character in this show stronger because right now she acts weak all the time. chillli Posted May 30, 2010 Report Share Posted May 30, 2010 i dunno,i watched about 3 episodes,but its kinda cliché to me...i started because of the historical part,its interesting to me,but it didnt really grab my attetntion overall,all the guys are an archetype of a reversed-harem (the silent one,the shota,the player,the cool-type etc..),so its kinda predictable who she is gonna end up with...and the girl is boring..but the art is great,i admit that. sekiiro Posted May 31, 2010 Report Share Posted May 31, 2010 To think that 'bishounen' is a genre is something entirely anime/manga culture. Just thought I'd mention that. Anyway, the bishies (although I wonder if they're really bishounen because they're much older than teens) are absolutely attractive. I quite like how they intertwined the different stories in the manga and melded it into one. Although, I'm not far into the anime so whether it continues to work or not is something I have yet to determine. But, like how chillli said, the characters are quite the standard. squeeke Posted June 16, 2010 Report Share Posted June 16, 2010 I must agree that it does remind me of Kaze Hikaru. But, I can't say so for sure because I've only seen like maybe 2 episodes. I love the historical elements because its something that I don't frequently see or watch. The guys are definatly archetypes of a reveresed-harem. Besides the fact that I would like to see more romance, I love it so far and I am interested to see how far it will go and what type of character developments will happen along the way. storyteller Posted June 22, 2010 Report Share Posted June 22, 2010 I liked it. Its surprisingly accurate historically, too (if you take out all the stuff about oni, of course). Especially the thing when they attacked the in with 10 ppl, of which 4 went in and 6 waited outside. Even down to the fact that okita coughed up blood and heisuke had his head practically split open. Needs more developement. Action keeps you on the edge of the seat. Historical getup makes 'em look, mmm mmm mmmmmm!! Some parts are really cute =), some are funny XD, some are dead serious >:[, and some are heart-breaking ;_;! And you just wanna know more!!! I've never played at the game but started to get interested in it when I saw some scans from Yone Kazuki's artbook. The illustrations were gorgeous. It was enough to make me want to follow the series . The first season was interesting, but i think that the second one will be even more.
